New connectivity product combines multiple
hardware/software functions in one convenient small-footprint plug-and-play box; NetLinker
speeds and simplifies linking a LAN to the Internet INTERNET WORLD SPRING, Los
Angeles (April 14, 1999) - NetLinker Corporation will formally introduce today its
namesake connectivity product - NetLinker - a device that provides all the functionality a
business needs to link a local area network (LAN) to the Internet. In a box less than half
the size of a desktop PC, each NetLinker contains a router, an email server, a firewall,
and a remote access server. NetLinker also features a load-balancing interface that
enables a user to increase speed and bandwidth just by adding multiple low-cost telephone
lines. Configuration and end-user access are handled through a simplified web-style
control panel.
"It's the ideal product for an organization that wants to connect to the Internet
quickly and efficiently," says company founder and CEO Victor Chen. "Before
NetLinker, you typically had to deal with 5 to 10 hardware or software vendors just to
establish a connection. Now, you can plug in our box and be up and running in less time
than a coffee break."
Chen, a former research scientist whose impressive résumé includes stints at Bell
Labs, IBM, DEC, Disney, and the MIT Media Lab, designed NetLinker when he grew frustrated
with existing product offerings in the field.
"It's crazy," he says. "This is relatively straightforward technology.
You shouldn't have to hire a technical wizard to set up and maintain your Internet
connection. What you need is a plug-and-play appliance."
Chen has high hopes for NetLinker, particularly as broadband always-on connections such
as DSL become the norm. "Businesses are going to want to become their own ISPs,"
he says. "With NetLinker, they can."
He also emphasizes the security benefits of NetLinker. If a company buys components
from an assortment of vendors, then doesn't implement or misconfigures its firewall, it's
left wide open to attack and/or theft. Because NetLinker has a built-in firewall, and
because NetLinker sits outside the customer's existing LAN, security risks are minimized.
Overall, NetLinker provides convenience, ease of use, stability, and security in a
simple, reasonably priced, plug-and-play device.
NetLinker is available NOW, with prices starting at just under $2000, more depending on
configuration. For further information, please view our web site at www.netlinker.net - or you can contact NetLinker
